The exec meeting started with a 1024ms silence, to respect the passing of a dear friend. With the release of Windows XP, and the Win9x/ME line being finally phased out, the days of one of our greatest childhood friends are now past.

RIP MS-DOS.

On Sunday week 4 (28 Oct) CompSoc will be having it's first tutorial for this year: and it's about Swing - Java's Graphical User Interface (GUI). It will be from 1-3pm in Union North, Meeting Room 2. Hi everyone, and welcome to the latest edition of the Compsoc newsletter. Things are looking "interesting" on the CS academic side at the moment - first years programming funky robots (or so I'm told); second years being forced to learn Swing to attempt an assignent that has little or nothing to do with Swing and...

LAN party

Posted on 18th October 2001

There is going to be a CompSoc LAN party on Saturday, week 4 (27 Oct), in Lib1 (next to the library). Unfortunatly, all of the 18 places have already been taken, so we can't accept any more signups (unless you want to be on the end of a 5 long reserve list!). However, if you just want to see what a LAN party is like, feel free to turn up just to look round (without your computer, of course).

h4. 1st Social

The first social took place in South Central the night preceding this execeutive meeting. Well, the word ``social'' should be applied in the loosest sense, as the turnout was low, when compared to last year.

Next year, the secretary will send the e-mail out earlier.

Of all the members there, they were interes...

h4. Budget

Over the summer, we found out that we had been denied our capital budget request for a server. Chris Smith went to see Richard from the Finance Office, who is looking into this for us.

Chris to follow this up.
