h4. LAN server

Chris is lame for not having bought the speakers yet - Chris to buy them this week. Chris has investigated (and mailed info to the mailing list) and we can spend £4-500 on a decent spec box. Scrimping would only save about £40 so isn't really worth it. The RAID option was examined but considered too expens...

We are pleased to announce that our games server, insomnia, has (eventually) been installed onto the Piazza network. We are in the process of setting it up to provide numerous services, including a variety of games servers. If you have any suggestions for games or other facilities this server could provide, do not hesitate to contact the exec.

Update: Insomnia is now running Q3 (both original [on port 27960] and the OSP mod [on port 27961]) as well as a UT server. These can be accessed from q3.warwickcomps...

The signup process just got even quicker! Now, instead of wading through the menu of the left, finding the event, going to the 'Options' page - you just drop-down the list, and click. "But where is this?", you ask. On the homepage, of course - just to the right of the news items!

Insomnia should be installed on Monday 27th. The game servers should then be up by the next weekend, followed by miscellaneous otehr funky stuff.

James to implement a drop-down menu on the Mootov homepage so that it is easier to sign up for events.

h4. Gaming

The promised 16GB quota is one step closer now,...

...commence! In less than a week, CompSoc will be holding the first LAN for this term - and we want you there. Starting next Friday 8pm, and going on until Sunday 10pm, with signups up at 12 noon today! Expect the usual fun, with up to 32 people in the room, and lots of multiplayer games - it's certainly an unique atmosphere.

The official start will be 8pm on Friday: on-exec members not to turn up earlier unless this is unavoidable. The exec should arrive at 7pm to set-up the tables, etc. There will be no sleeping rota as there should be no need for one. Power will be nabbed from LIB1 as last time so we should be able to get up to 32 ...

Yes, it's here again. It's that time of year when you wrap lots of things up one night, only for them to be unwrapped the next morning. Anyway, I'm just here to say one thing: Happy Christmas!

Hope to see you all in the New Year, and I hope your Christmas is as good as mine is right now.

The laminates got sent back because we hadn't picked them up, so we will dispense with membership cards (for this year at least). James to put a page on the website where you can enter your uni ID to get an e-mail telling you your membership number and user code. There should also be an option to be sent a new password.
