Term 2 LAN 2

Posted on 4th March 2009

Once again we hit that time of term when a weekend can be wholly devoted to the honest, clean and outdoors fun of a good LAN party. For those of you who haven't been before (or in a little while), you might want to read the what to do [0] and bring [1] guides on the website, an indispensable tool for all potential attendees. I would also like to draw your attention to the Pizza Order [2] on the website, which we'll be making from Dominos and should arrive 9 or 10PM on Friday. At 50% off, there surely can't ...

AGM - tonight!

Posted on 18th February 2009

Once again it's the time of year that our Annual General Meeting comes around. We'll be assembling our conclave later this evening at 1830 in rooms R0.03/04 in the Ramphal building, and I'd like to wholeheartedly encourage you to attend if you find yourself even slightly partial to the future direction of the society. There may be snackies, and in true compsoc tradition a trip to a purveyor of beverages seems likely to follow.

If you've reached term two whilst still unsure of the location of the Ramphal Bu...

First LAN of Term 2

Posted on 10th January 2009

Reasonably quiet week for CompSoc.. except of course for LAN next weekend! Signups are still open, but places are obviously being taken up, so head over to the events page if you don't want to miss out on a weekend of epic procrastination. (You might want to check out the pizza order event also, so that you don't starve while you game.)

Apart from that, we hope you guys all had a good holiday, and hope to see you at all our events!

LAN Signups

Posted on 24th October 2008

There are only a very small number of spaces left for our LAN at the end of week 6. If you're interested in going, sign up now to avoid disappointment! There is also a pizza order currently on the website for delivery on the Friday night. This time we'll be ordering from Dominos, and we'll be getting half price on the whole order.

Fresher's Fair Volunteering

Posted on 26th September 2008

So it's that time of year again where we attempt to brainwash freshers into giving up their souls and joining our ranks of nerdery and awesome.

Unfortunately, whilst brainwashing is good in theory we need people to carry out said brainwashing on our behalf.

As such we need volunteers to man the stalls for the fresher's fair, signups have already been posted on the Events page so if you've got a free hour or two on Monday or Tuesday of week two between 9 and 4:30 then the rest of the exec and I would be re...

LANs and Freshers

Posted on 23rd September 2008

Hope you've all had a great summer and for those of you who are coming back and that you're looking forward to the new year.

Multiplay have just contacted us and asked if any members would appreciate free (yes, free! Normal price is £45, I believe) tickets to the PC Gamer Showdown at Stoneleigh park *this weekend*. If you aren't aware, Stoneleigh Park is very conveniently located, being only about 10 minutes travel away from campus. This is a BYOC LAN event for 800 people with some big cash prize tourname...

Paintball

Posted on 16th June 2008

Warwick paintball soc have been awesome and organised us one hell of an event for Saturday.

As it happens the paintball ground they use is celebrating its 21st birthday and as such there will be live music, a hog roast and just more epic than your body has room for.

The price of tickets is £43 which is really reasonable considering that you get 1000 paintballs, a smoke grenade and all the other things listed above. It also happens to be a cool £12 less than their ordinary asking price.

So I only ask that...

End of term / BFL signup

Posted on 7th June 2008

Hi all,

Hope that your exams have been going well, and if they aren't already, will be over as soon as possible. As we come to the end of the year, we're approaching the main event in compsoc's calendar: our annual week-long MegaLAN / BFL, which will this year will take place, as usual, over the final week of term in lib1/2. This is the most popular event of the year, and is often oversubscribed; consider this (short!) warning that "signups":http://www.uwcs.co.uk/society/events/details/833 will open at mi...

Posted on 11th March 2008

The first problem for the Compsoc Progcomp has been announced! To get started, you'll want to look at http://progcomp.uwcs.co.uk/. It is free to enter and there will be prizes for the best entries.

The deadline for code entry is 2 weeks from now, and there should be plenty of competition, but it is intended to be enjoyable for any level of programmer who wishes to enter.
