New LAN guides

Posted on 17th October 2002

In anticipation of this weekend's LAN, I've written two guides about how compsoc LANs work and what you should bring to them.

If you've not been to a compsoc LAN before, have a read of the 'What to do' guide. If you have, you may still find the 'What to Bring' guide handy.

See you all Saturday!

LAN and OSP

Posted on 14th October 2002

Just a reminder for those who don't know; we're holding a LAN party this weekend, from 10am Saturday until 10pm Sunday. So for all you guys who expressed an interest at the Fresher's Fair, why not bring your PC along, and try kicking our arses? Details on the social events page.

Our OSP (Open Source Project) is coming along ok, but we need a new one this year... we're holding a discussion (ok, argument more like) in Cholo 3pm this Wednesday. This meeting is to discuss the relative merits of the ideas put f...

Molotov Access

Posted on 13th October 2002

Over the past week, and it particular on Saturday 12th, the network connection between the Students' Union building (where Molotov is located) and the rest of the University network has been having some problems. It should be noted that Molotov has been up and running the whole time, although access to it has been intermittent. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, but unfortunately this situation is beyond our control.

Welcome

Posted on 9th October 2002

Welcome to the University of Warwick Computing Society's Webpage!

If you're a member, welcome - and thanks for joining the society. If you missed us at Fresher's Fayre, or have just decided that you'd like to join, the kind folks at Union North will be only too happy to sign you up.

Our first social is this Friday, at 7:00 in The Airport ("The Bar"). Afterwards, we'll be heading off to ITS for the first gaming of the year, so feel free to come along and join in!

You can log in by clicking the 'Members' i...

v2 Arrives

Posted on 30th September 2002

And, finally, it's here. The new version of the CompSoc website... and by Bob it's taken some effort. I expect it will be a bit odd to navigate at first, since the main changes have been to do with the organisation of the pages - hopefully it's a bit more logical now (yeah, I wish :) ). As always, you find something broken, incorrect, or just any comments generally, send them on the back of a postcard, to J.G.Ross@warwick.ac.uk.

Email on molotov

Posted on 26th August 2002

Email on molotov is sorted. You can send and receive email if you have a molotov account, using your normal molotov username and password. You can even send and receive it securely, with the connection between your computer and molotov all nice and encrypted. For details, see this document

Molotov MkII

Posted on 23rd August 2002

By the time you all read this, the new server will be installed and working fine (I hope!). If there are any problems with the new setup, please mail me. Those of you with dynamic PHP scripts will need to change them; for details, go to http://www.warwickcompsoc.co.uk/molotov/php.cps.
We will, at some point, have pages further detailing the services that Molotov MkII will offer you.

Replacement server

Posted on 20th August 2002

In order to provide better services for our members in the coming academic year, we're intending to replace the machine that is currently being 'molotov' with a brand new, sparkling, funky server. Or something. Anyway, the net effect is that services will be unavailable for a period from about 5pm onwards on Thursday (22nd) until midday-ish on Friday (23rd). Any changes made to data on molotov (eg IRC and user accounts) may not be stored. I will post another news item once everything's done. Mail me with an...
