Dr. Solomon lecture

As the first event of this term, we are proud to present Dr. Alan Solomon giving a talk about how his AntiVirus software originally came to be written. Come along to the Physics Lecture Theatre on the Science Concourse at 3pm on Wednesday of Week 2!
CS Results
Posted on 15th March 2003Well for those unaware the results of our CS fun last night were:
* Fade enjoyed setting evil gravity that killed you if you walked down a ramp!
* Past and future presidents engaged in furious bidding wars for the right to decide map settings.
* Draconas became the mad auctioneer at brief periods as the admin bribes escalated to ridiculous levels.
* Sadiq proved to be the master at "death from above" with a submachine gun.
* Some society members grudgingly admitted that CS is actually a good ...
Counterstrike Tournament
Posted on 11th March 2003This Friday (Week 10), The Computing Society will be holding a Counterstrike gaming tournament in aid of Comic Relief.
Entry fee: £2.00
Time: 10:00 pm
Location: ITS0.11, under L3 (Near Getech)
Bring along: Your own headphones, and money for bribes
The server operators will be accepting reasonable bribes, so the evening promises to be full of mayhem and fun! After all, how many other societies give you the opportunity to kill people for a good cause? ;)

CompSoc Exec 2003-2004
Posted on 23rd February 2003The elections for next year's CompSoc Exec were held at the LAN. The results are as follows:
* President - Phil Stoneman (DrWatson)
* Vice-President - Sadiq Jaffer
* Secretary - Euan MacGregor (zx64)
* Treasurer - Christian Bates (Draconas)
* Technical Officer - Richard Wilson (Si1entDave)
* Webmaster - David Buckley (Bucko)
The new exec will be phased in over the next three weeks, and will officially take over their duties at the start of Term 3.
LAN signups
Posted on 9th February 2003Oops! Sorry, we meant Sunday in the newsletter for LAN signups. Everything else stands, though - and signups are open now - just select the LAN from the list on the right on the website.
New server! Yay!
Posted on 30th January 2003We are pleased to announce that our games server, insomnia, has (eventually) been installed onto the Piazza network. We are in the process of setting it up to provide numerous services, including a variety of games servers. If you have any suggestions for games or other facilities this server could provide, do not hesitate to contact the exec.
Update: Insomnia is now running Q3 (both original [on port 27960] and the OSP mod [on port 27961]) as well as a UT server. These can be accessed from q3.warwickcomps...
Signup Quicker
Posted on 27th January 2003The signup process just got even quicker! Now, instead of wading through the menu of the left, finding the event, going to the 'Options' page - you just drop-down the list, and click. "But where is this?", you ask. On the homepage, of course - just to the right of the news items!
Let the LAN...
Posted on 12th January 2003...commence! In less than a week, CompSoc will be holding the first LAN for this term - and we want you there. Starting next Friday 8pm, and going on until Sunday 10pm, with signups up at 12 noon today! Expect the usual fun, with up to 32 people in the room, and lots of multiplayer games - it's certainly an unique atmosphere.
Christmas
Posted on 25th December 2002Yes, it's here again. It's that time of year when you wrap lots of things up one night, only for them to be unwrapped the next morning. Anyway, I'm just here to say one thing: Happy Christmas!
